The Guide To London During Twixmas
Enjoying December? The festive season in full swing, lights are abuzz, bars are heaving, Santa is finding his away around different grottos, champagne glasses are clinking and shopping bags are filled with gifts.
We’re helping you find ways to fill the time between Christmas and New Year, otherwise known as Twixmas. Whether its much-needed downtime, an opportunity to catch up with friends or simply enjoy the city before the New Year kicks in.
Catch a Show
The one thing you are guaranteed is London’s theatre, which never tires and continues thriving throughout the week and the year. This time is a great opportunity to sit back, relax and let some professionals take over. Enjoy a spectacular performance at one of London’s theatres and there’s plenty of shows to choose from, whether it’s watching a fashion fiend in killer heels in
Devil Wears Prada, witnessing calamity and chaos at
The Play That Goes Wrong or finally seeing the fantastical musical behind the new cinematic hit
Wicked.
Afternoon Tea
It’s not yet time to detox or lay off indulgence. Our Festive Afternoon Tea is available until 5th January and is worth booking. Relax over a glass of champagne, a cup of tea and good conversation in our luscious leather banquets and toast the season with everything from Mini Irish cream tortes to salted caramel cheesecake, chocolate fudge cake to mini macarons and of course mini mince pies, along with plenty of delightful savouries and London’s best scones (with and without raisins).
London's Exhibitions
We are centred right in the middle of plenty of exhibitions including the brand new
Moco Museum where you can experience modern and contemporary art with three unique exhibitions featuring vibrant pop art and innovative digital art. Or perhaps
FRAMELESS, to spend a winter’s afternoon in a spectacular immersive art experience with tons of digital masterpieces by renowned artists. Francis Bacon showcases more than 55 works from the 1950s onwards at the
National Portrait Gallery, showing how Bacon challenged the traditional definitions of the portraiture genre. On until 19 January. And music fans, photographs from the Sir Elton John and David Furnish Collection in exhibition
Fragile Beauty are currently on display at the V&A Museum. Fashion, celebrity, reportage and the male body are tackled in the images.
Skate Away
So many lovely ice rinks pop up around the capital for the Christmas period, many of which continue beyond Christmas Day.
Skate at Somerset House is open until 12th January, and
Glide at Battersea Power Station and
Winter Wonderland both until 5th January. Whether you’re excited about DJ takeovers, family fun, skate school or some shopping fun, all locations have some extra to offer to fill the time effectively.
A London Staycation
Treat yourself to a fancy staycation with us at The Mandeville, knowing you are in the most comfortable beds, surrounded by the best that London has to offer. Wake up to an indulgent breakfast, get your walking shoes on to explore London from the exhibitions to the sales plus the best restaurants at your doorstep. Its mini-break that is an ideal re-charge before the New Year.
