July is the month London truly comes into its own — Wimbledon on every screen, gardens in full bloom, and evenings that stretch generously past nine. Summer in the Square, Portman Square Garden
Quite literally around the corner from the hotel, one of London's best-kept secrets throws open its gates for one week only. Portman Square Garden - a private residents' garden usually locked to the public - hosts Summer in the Square from 7–12 July, and it is Marylebone at its most charming. Sink into a deckchair to watch the final week of Wimbledon on the big screen, sip a spritz from the Home House garden bar, and graze through the Guest Kitchen's rotating line-up of standout local restaurants, including Angela Hartnett's Cafe Murano. Free yoga, Pilates and breathwork sessions in the Wellness Den complete the picture. Entry is free - simply stroll over.

A Midsummer Night's Dream at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre
Is there anything more quintessentially London-in-July than Shakespeare under the stars? Regent's Park Open Air Theatre - a leafy 15-minute stroll north of the hotel - is staging the Bard's most enchanting comedy in the setting it was surely written for. Pack a light layer, arrive early for a glass of something chilled on the lawn, and let Puck's mischief unfold as dusk falls over the park. The production runs only until 18 July, so this one rewards the decisive.

Luminiscence at Westminster Cathedral
The immersive sensation that has captivated more than two million people worldwide has arrived in London. Luminiscence transforms Westminster Cathedral's soaring neo-Byzantine interior with a 360° projection spectacle, as the Lux Aeterna choir performs Beethoven, Verdi and Vivaldi live, and Hugh Bonneville narrates the story of London in a specially commissioned script. The crowning moment sees the cathedral's famously unfinished mosaic domes digitally completed in the architect's original vision, for the very first time. Fifty minutes of pure wonder - and a short taxi ride from the hotel.

The Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy
A London institution since 1769, the Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition remains the world's oldest open-submission art show - and this year, curated by sculptor Ryan Gander around the theme of "Interconnectedness," it fills the galleries with nearly 2,000 works. Wander without an agenda; somewhere among the paintings and sculptures you may discover your new favourite artist (and most works are for sale). Our tip: visit on a Friday or Saturday evening, when the galleries stay open until 9pm and a gin bar pops up inside the exhibition itself.

Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style at The King's Gallery
Timed to what would have been Her late Majesty's 100th birthday, this is the most comprehensive exhibition of the Queen's wardrobe ever staged - a fascinating study of how one woman used fashion as quiet diplomacy for seven decades. Pair it with a visit to the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace, which open to visitors from late July for their brief annual season. Together, they make for an unashamedly regal afternoon.

Marilyn Monroe: A Portrait at the National Portrait Gallery
Another icon, another centenary. Marking 100 years since Marilyn Monroe's birth, the National Portrait Gallery presents a luminous exhibition tracing the making of Hollywood's most enduring image. It's an intimate, thoughtful portrait of the woman behind the myth - and the gallery's rooftop restaurant, with its views over Trafalgar Square towards Big Ben, makes the perfect finale.

Somerset House Summer Series
Eleven nights of open-air concerts in one of London's most beautiful neoclassical courtyards - the Somerset House Summer Series is a July ritual for those in the know. An eclectic line-up of new and established artists from around the world plays beneath the summer sky, with the fountains, cocktails and golden-hour light doing much of the atmospheric heavy lifting. Intimate by festival standards and effortlessly elegant, it is live music as it should be.
