Hot happenings in London this summer

There’s nowhere quite like London during summer. The capital comes alive when the sun shines, and its inhabitants take to the streets, parks and waterways to revel in longer days and glorious heat. There’s so much to see and do in our electric capital, its tough to choose just a few of the most thrilling sporting, tasting and musical happenings on offer.

1. London Wine Week 13 - 19 May
Wine lovers rejoice! This week-long celebration of grapey goodness has no signup fee this year, meaning even better access to exclusive £6 wine ‘flights’ - 3 tasting glasses of wines curated by expert sommeliers at wine bars and restaurants all over the city. From vintage names to new kids on the block, you’ll get to try reds, whites, pinks and bubbles over seven days of salacious fun. With over 125 bars participating in this year's festivities, no doubt you’ll find a cosy corner somewhere in the city for a tipple or three…

2. Chelsea Flower Show 21 - 25 May
With over 500 exhibitors set to showcase their spectacular creations this year, the annual festival of flowers is set to be bigger than ever! This magnificent event hosted by the Royal Horticultural Society demonstrates the very best of flower arranging and landscape gardening - an annual tradition that is over 100 years old. The show will be opened by the RHS patron, the Queen.

This televised event means cameras, presenters and famous folk will be milling around enjoying the blooms. In fact, the Duchess of Cambridge is even said to be co-designing a Back to Nature garden.

3. Royal Ascot 18 - 22 June
Britain’s most eminent race meeting, attracting the world’s finest racehorses to compete for millions of pounds in prize money, Royal Ascot is anticipated and revered the world over. With unparalleled heritage, elegant fashions, chattering atmosphere and flowing champagne, each year at Ascot is unforgettable. No other thoroughbred horse racing event around the world can compete with Royal Ascot.

4. West End Live 22 - 23 June
This two day festival in mid-June sees some of West End theatre’s top casts member take the the stage in Trafalgar Square to perform extracts from some of the most world-renowned musicals. Where better than London to see musical theatre performances in open air, right in front of the National Gallery?! If that wasn’t enough of a draw, this fabulous spectacle is totally free!
This annual summer staple - the largest outdoor musical theatre event in the world - is truly unmissable.

5. Taste of London 19 - 23 June
The highlight of London’s foodie calendar, this twice annual pop-up (in June and November) takes place in the fabulous Regent’s Park. Set to welcome over 50,000 people for an alfresco summer feast, you’ll get to sample signature dishes from London’s latest, greatest and most exciting restaurants, as well as off-menu items they've created exclusively for Taste of London.

As well as chowing down on delicious dishes, there’ll also be specialist tastings, masterclasses from some famous names and live music and entertainment all over the park. Get a ticket and join in the fun!

6. Wimbledon 1 - 14 July
The celebrated home of tennis returns to the fore once again this July, where the world’s top tennis stars compete to be crowned world champion. Novak Djokovic and Angelique Kerber are the defending champions in the single competitions, but there’s also high-octane doubles matches and incredibly impressive wheelchair tennis too.

Make sure to indulge in Pimm’s, champers and strawberries with cream for the fully British lawn tennis experience.And, if you don’t manage to get tickets for a particular match, you can take a pew up on Henman Hill and watch the principal matches on the big screen outside Court No. 1.

7. British Summertime Hyde Park 5 - 14 July
The 7th year of British Summertime Festival will see some of the world’s hugest stars - Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Stevie Wonder and Lionel Ritchie - take to the stage over two weekends of festivities. Joined by the likes of Florence and the Machine and Robbie Williams, this year’s BST is set to be a bonanza! 

This high-end festival will also provide excellent street food stalls, a plethora of bars as well as comedy and theatrical performances. There’s also a swish VIP area with premium foodie outlet and a VIP Summer Garden, and ticket holders get advance access through the main gates to nab the best spots.
