Summer in the City London 2016

First of all, we have the classic British summer events which can't be missed. We mean Wimbledon and Ascot of course – a British summer wouldn't be complete without these historic gems. Royal Ascot runs from the 14th to the 18th of June and is not only a sporting but a fashion must-do event for your calendar. As one of the world's most famous and historic races, started by Queen Ann in 1711, it's a quintessentially British experience and the original place to both see and be seen. The fashion scene is all about the hats – and our exclusive fashion concierge has got you sorted. Our concierge can also secure you the tickets of your dreams, whether you prefer the informality of the Windsor Enclosure or the suave atmosphere and live military bands of the Queen Ann enclosure. Take a chance on your favourite horse, sip some champagne in the sunshine and maybe even see a Royal or two – it's a Great British event, after all, so they're always there en mass. And Ascot station is just 53 minutes away from Waterloo, so you can come back and curl into your cosy Mandeville bed after a hard day of drinking and eating (and watching the racing too, we suppose...).

Then of course there is Wimbledon, the second of the Capital's famously British events. This year find the tennis matches from 27th June until the 10th July. Let us find you the best tickets or watch it like a local instead – on one of the city's many chill-out outdoor big-screens. Find the most famous of these, 'Henman Hill' (officially Aorangi Terrace) at the north of the No.1 court and join the Londoners sitting and eating British strawberries and cream in the summer sunshine as the games roll on and on.

Lesser-known things to do in the city this summer include a range of special events and pop-ups around the capital designed for your entertainment. London Zoo is opening its doors to kids of all ages to see the animals and enclosures in the twilight with their Sunset Safari offering, making for the perfect early evening activity for the little ones. If you're a culture vulture, be sure to head to Trafalgar Square, where there will be pop-up big screens playing the Royal Opera House's best live ballet and opera until 14th July. Plus, this historic square will also be the centre of the city's lively Pride celebrations running from now until the the 26th of June. Live music can also be found at the esteemed Hampton Court Palace Festival. This historic setting makes for the most relaxing summer nights, with regular concerts until the 23rd of June. And of course, London's parks are always buzzing in the summer time, with a string of festivals in our neighbouring Hyde park to keep you busy all summer long. It's all about getting outside, after all. You could even try the 'indie' Chelsea Flower Show – the Open Garden Squares Weekend, on the 18th and 19th June. Find your way around the wonders and intricacies of over 200 private, secret and under-the-radar gardens across 27 London boroughs in this unique event. See everything from the historic to the experimental in one day, with an eclectic range of roof gardens, private historic buildings, community allotments, and more - and maybe even finish up with the holy grail of a British tan.

This is only the beginning of the myriad of events and activities going on in the city this summer. And where should you stay that's worthy of a city break as fantastic as this? The Mandeville, of course. Our exclusive new 'Riviera Rooms', designed with Maison Christian Lacroix interiors, are hot off the press and open for bookings now. These rooms bring the style and class of the French Riviera to Marylebone and form the perfect setting for a romantic getaway. Plus, we have created a special 'Riviera Package' to include a generous full English breakfast for two and bottle of Louis Dornier et Fils Brut champagne upon arrival. And for those of you who love to save, we have a whole range of deals for you this summer, including our special weekend packages from 1 night to an extended stay in the Capital, including a Full English breakfast to start your day just right, and a glass of wine.

This summer in the city is going to be spectacular, so catch it quickly before the rain descends again!
